Is The World Going to End?

Have you seen any trailers for the new 2012 movie? Did it make you think that the world was going to come to an end? If the answer is yes, then you are not alone.

2012 Movie Makes People Think The World Is Ending

The movie is about the 2012 Mayan prophecy .. many people believe the world is going to end because the Mayan calendar ended on or around December 21, 2012.

Well the movie studio have decided to use this to their advantage, creating face websites and Facebook pages making people fear the end of the world is coming.

It has become so bad that thousands of people are emailing NASA with fears about doomsday, this has caused NASA scientist David Morrison to release a statement saying “I don’t have anything against the movie. It’s the way it’s been marketed and the way it exploits people’s fears.”

As for what Morrison thinks about the Mayan calendar ending on that date, he says “Calendars exist for keeping track of the passage of time, not for predicting the future. The Mayan astronomers were clever, and they developed a very complex calendar. Ancient calendars are interesting to historians, but they cannot match the ability we have today to keep track of time, or the precision of the calendars currently in use. The main point, however, is that calendars, whether contemporary or ancient, cannot predict the future of our planet or warn of things to happen on a specific date such as 2012. I note that my desk calendar ends much sooner, on December 31 2009, but I do not interpret this as a prediction of Armageddon. It is just the beginning of a new year.”

Warren Betts, whose company helps push out the real science stories tied to movies, also weighed in on this movie saying they have gone too far with the promotions.

He said, “I think people are really, really worried about the world coming to an end. Kids are contemplating suicide. Adults tell me they can’t sleep and can’t stop crying. There are people who are really, really scared. People are very gullible, it a sad testimonial that you need NASA to tell you the world’s not going to end.”

This is absolutely ridiculous, it embarrasses me that people are gullible they fell for the Y2K and now have fallen for the 2012 (when the 2012 prophecy is based on a calendar ending, nobody saying we are all going to die). I have a feeling that a lot of people will be killing themselves in 2012 and doing crazy things because they think the end is coming.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

x-men-wolverineX-Men Origins: Wolverine is howling its way to the top of the box office with an opening day gross of $35 million. Bowing in 4,099 theaters, the film boasted a per-screen average of $8,539 on Friday. Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (starring Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner) also scored a healthy opening-day number, with $5.8 million in 3,175 theaters. Wolverine’s opening-day haul lags behind 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand’s single-day opening gross of $45 million, according to Hollywood.com’s box office analyst Paul Dergarabedian. Whether the  can make up the deficit in the next two days remains to be seen. If not, it’s highly unlikely the Hugh Jackman flick will manage to match Iron Man’s gross of $98.6 from this same weekend last year.

Selina The Movie

silinaOne girl, poor, candid, exposes a whole town, that was living on lies. Her weapon? Honesty. Her motive? Selflessness. But is this possible in the real world?
Or is it just a dream?
A dream? So be it. But are not dreams the first step to reality?
“Silina” is the old dream of a producer that has given a lot to the Arab world cinema. Driven by his relentless love of others for years gone by, he ventured upon making a musical, in spite of all the special financial and artistic requirements of the genre; designs, costumes, musicians, singers, dancers, actors, and technicians.
“Love” can also be contagious, and if you read the script written by renowned author “Mansour Rahbani” and listen to the Rahbani brothers play “Hala and the King”, you’ll fall in love with that “dream” and understand the secret reason of producer Nader El Atassi’s attachment to this project.
