Carpe Diem Project (Syrian DJ)

carpe

Dany and Alfred’s infatuation with house music began in their home city, Damascus (Syria), where they became popular among their friends and community for their conspicuous talent. Never failing to seduce the crowd’s ear, they tore the nights away in local clubs and house parties up to their departure to Montreal. Immediately lured by the sounds of the underground culture they were able to redefine their tunes to what is characterized by a mingling of tech and progressive house beats.

The DJ’ing duo, whose growing desire for musical expression brought them together as Carpe Diem in the summer of 2008, are freshly releasing monthly sets through their podcast—Midnight Cherry Mix.

Maysoon Shaladi (Originally from Syria)

maysoon

Maysoon claim to fame is being on Big Brother Season 9

Maysoon Shaladi (born 1979) is originaly from Syria bt now lives in hertfordshire. She describes herself as a model who wants to prove that not all the girls in her business are stuck-up and self-centred.

She labels herself `single` but she`s been living with her boyfriend Turkish-Cypriot Ramsay Ahmet, 29, for ten years. They`re on a break at the moment, but she still loves him. She met him in a supermarket, so she knows how to `check out` other guys…

Maysoon`s boyfriend Ramsay is an AA patrolman and as such is a very nice man, a very very nice man, a very very very nice man. And only cost £39 — Ok enough the jokes.

Maysoon is bright, polite and fluent in Arabic. She is a modern girl but also respects her parents and their old-fashioned values. She is dignified and says she will not discuss her sex life. This was born out in the house on Day 36 Maysoon refused to take part in a fun game where the housemates rated themselves on sexual prowess and favourite body parts.

Ambitions-wise, Maysoon says she would love to be a `super something`. Whether that `something` is a model, presenter or an actress doesn bother her. We say stick to modelling. Charisma not so important.

Hewar - Clasic Arabic Jazz

Bringing together an amazingly diverse array of musical influences, and drawing from a variety of musical traditions—namely Arabic, jazz, scat, opera and classical music; is what makes Hewar a truly unique venture. The band, building on the acclaimed individual talents of its members, juxtaposes and meshes these styles to create a truly one-of-a-kind genre-defying musical experience.

The band includes clarinet player Kinan Azmeh, Oud soloist Essam Rafea, and lyrical Soprano Dima Orsho, all of whom are alumni of the Syrian National Orchestra. They live in various parts of the world, however, which enhances the band’s cultural medley of influences and musical tastes.

Hewar released their first album in 2005 in Beirut and Damascus; it was produced by Incognito. The latter also released the band’s next album, ‘9 Days of Solitude’, in 2007; it was recorded in collaboration with three distinguished musical guests: Manfred Leuchter, Steffen Thormahlen and Antoine Puetz.
